China’s imports of corn in December 2017
According to China’s General Administration of Customs, China's corn imports in December were 454,151.146 tonnes, surprisingly up 1,987.47% with a significant rise of 432,395.122 tonnes from November’s 21,756.024 tonnes. And the imports increased by more than 14 times as compared to 141,431.493 tonnes in December, 2016 with an impressive increase of 312,719.653 tonnes. That mainly derived from expanded corn price gap between China and rival overseas, which therefore lured Chinese buyers into overseas corn purchasing. Overall, China imported 2,825,448 tonnes of corn in 2017, but the figure was still 341,505 tonnes lower than 3,166,953 tonnes attained the same period last year by 10.78%.
