I. Import of rapeseed
According to General Administration of Customs, China imported 372,700 tonnes of rapeseed in January 2018, steadily increasing by 13% from December of 2017, but decreasing by 8.6% from the same period of last year. So far, imports of rapeseed in the first eight months amounted to 3,019,400 tonnes in year 2017/18, up 35.5% from the corresponding period in year 2016/17. As a matter of fact, a significant improvement of rapeseed imports was seen during the crop year, which came after the resolved trade conflict in 2016 between China and Canada about different requirements for rapeseed impurities.

China's rapeseed market in the first month of 2018 was generally stable. No significant increase or decrease as compared to December or January of year 2017. Affected by new policies on import, imported rapeseed in the first eight months of 2017/18 increased by 35.5% over the same period of last year. With China-Canadian trade conflicts resolved and domestic demand on the rise, profits from rapeseed processing are especially satisfactory. That gives a possibility for rapeseed imports to edge up further in year 2018 from year 2017.

II. Import of rapeseed meal
According to customs data, China imported 124,000 tonnes of rapeseed meal at ports in January 2018, impressively up 121.8% from 55,900 tonnes in December of year 2017, and up 54.9% on a year-on-year basis. So far, imports of rapeseed in the first seven months amounted to 730,000 tonnes in year 2017/18, up 53.9% in the same period of year 2016/17. By and larger, China’s import of rapeseed meal in the first month of 2018 again exceeded 10,000 tonnes mark after November of last year, presenting a good start. Additionally, supply imbalance in some areas also raised the enthusiasm for rapeseed meal imports, especially, among all customs districts in China, Nanjing had become an important delivery destination for imported rapeseed meal distribution to inland areas.

On the other hand, imports at some ports and in some regions would be seen lessened in a near future for not a few market insiders in the early period switch to the bullish stances for market both at home and abroad, as a consequence, market supply of domestic rapeseed meal was affected. Meantime, regions like Wuhan, Shanghai and Nanjing would keep robust in demand for rapeseed meal imported in light of tight supply of domestic rapeseed meal.

III. Import of rapeseed oil
According to customs data, January imports of rapeseed oil totaled 95,900 tonnes, up 65.34% from December of year 2017. So far, imports of year 2018 added up to 447,000 tonnes, up 12.9% from 396,000 tonnes in the same period of year 2017.
