Sichuan, the main hog breeding province in China
NBS survey office in Sichuan Province:
Sichuan owns 29.302 mln pigs in breeding at the end of the third quarter in 2019, a year-on-year decrease of 33.1%. Among them, ending stocks of sows see a year-on-year decrease of 32% to 2.658 mln, which accounts for a relatively low level of 9.1% of the total hog quantity in breeding. The hog number for slaughter is 35.82 mln in the first three quarters, down 18% of the same period last year.
Sichuan has 456.356 mln of poultry in farming, with a year-on-year growth of 20.5%; its slaughter number total 480.83 mln, a year-on-year growth of 15.6%. Affected by the downturn in hog production capacity, the demand for poultry products further increases, especially in the second quarter due to its quick production and short cycle.
From the monthly monitoring on large counties, the reduction of breeding hog and sow in September is smaller than that in July and August, a sign that the production is getting better. Farmers now are more willing to enlarge hog production as their sentiment has picked up to certain extent.
