NBS: Dec CPI up 2.9% y/y, pork prices up 97.0% y/y

In December 2019, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose 4.5% from a year earlier.

The CPI in 2019 rose 2.9% from that in 2018.

Of them, pork prices rose by 97.0% in December, boosting CPI by 2.34 percentage points.

In December 2019, the CPI rose 4.5% from a year earlier, with an increase of 4.2% in urban and 5.3% in rural area. The food prices went up by 17.4%, with an increase of 97.0% in pork prices, and the non-food prices increased 1.3%. The prices of consumer goods moved higher by 6.4% and the prices of services grew by 1.2%. 

In terms of month on month, the CPI remained flat in December, of which it was unchanged in urban and down by 0.4% in rural areas. The food prices went down by 0.4%, and the non-food prices increased 0.1%. The prices of consumer goods and services remained flat. 

From January to December 2019, the overall consumer prices were up by 2.9% from the same period of the previous year.
