China to expand imports from US, but not hurting that from other countries
China will expand imports from the United States in accordance with the principle of market and WTO rules, and this will not will not impact imports from other countries, said Li Xingqian, head of foreign trade department at China’s Ministry of Commerce.
China has a population of 1.4 bn and its middle-income population is very huge and growing, so it boasts huge a huge market potential. China welcomes high-quality and competitive US products to Chinese markets and hopes that Washington will help create conditions to expand exports to China, said Li.
“China is one of the world's largest consumer markets after the United States. And the market now is growing quickly, with diversified, multilevel, and broad import demand. China will expand imports from the United States in accordance with the principle of market and WTO rules, and this will not will not impact imports from other countries. China sincerely welcomes worldwide companies to compete on an equal footing in the vast Chinese market,” he added.
Li stressed, China has been taking the initiative to expand imports, which is not only our established trade policy, but also an inevitable choice to promote high-quality development in trade. This will help promote industrial upgrading, meet public consumption upgrading, and drive the upgrading in structure of export products, thus enabling China to benefit the whole world with its fruits of development and benefits of reform.
