China’s Soybean Crush Weekly (Week 5, 2020)

This week (Jan. 25-31), operation rates for soybean crush stay at a very low level amid the Lunar New Year holidays. Soybean crush at domestic mills totals 52,700 tonnes (meal 41,633 tonnes and oil 10,013 tonnes), down 889,300 tonnes or 94.41% from 942,000 tonnes in the previous week. Meanwhile, operation rates (capacity utilization) are 1.50%, down 25.38 percentage points from 26.88% in the previous week. Soybean crush will slightly go higher in the next two weeks, to 710,000 tonnes next week and to 1.48 mln tonnes that following week.
 
Last week ( Jan. 18-24), soybean crush at domestic mills totals 942,000 tonnes (meal 74,418 tonnes and oil 17,898 tonnes), down 1,059,700 tonnes or 52.94% from 2,001,700 tonnes in the previous week. Meanwhile, operation rates (capacity utilization) are 26.88%, down 30.24 percentage points from 57.12% in the previous week. 
 
As of this week, soybean crush nationwide totals 27,927,500 tonnes in the crushing year of 2019/20 (from October 1st, 2019), down 2,491,185 tonnes or 0.8% from 30,418,685 tonnes of the same period last year. In calendar year of 2020 (from Jan. 1st, 2020), national soybean crush amounts to 58,77,200 tonnes, down 1,390,085 tonnes or 19.12% from 72,672,85 tonnes of the corresponding period in 2019.
