NBS: May CPI up 2.4% y-o-y, down 0.8% m-o-m

In May 2020, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose 2.4% from a year earlier, with an increase of 2.3% in urban and 3.0% in rural area, according to the National Bureau of Statistics of China. The food prices up by 10.6% and the non-food prices up by 0.4%. The prices of consumer goods grew by 3.3% and the prices of services increased by 1.0%. From January to May, on average, the CPI was up 4.1% from the corresponding period last year.

Besides, the CPI was down 0.8% month on month, a decrease of 0.7% in urban and 0.9% in rural area. The food prices declined by 3.5%, and the non-food prices remained flat. The prices of consumer goods fell 1.2% and the prices of services were unchanged with last month.
