Soybean crush in June in China
According to final detailed investigation and verification by Cofeed, soybean crush in oil mills in June totaled 8,733,150 tonnes (meal 6,899,189 tonnes and oil 1,659,299 tonnes), up 113,750 tonnes by 1.32% from 8,619,400 tonnes in May, and up by 18.09% from 7,395,400 tonnes in the corresponding period last year.
Soybean crush nationwide totaled 58,087,250 tonnes in the crushing year of 2019/2020 (from Oct. 1st, 2019), up 1,784,900 tonnes by 3.17% from 56,302,350 tonnes in 2018/2019. In calendar year of 2020 (from Jan. 1st, 2020), national soybean crush totaled 36,168,550 tonnes, up 3,123,700 tonnes by 9.45% from 33,044,850 tonnes in 2019.

China imported 9,376,900 tonnes of soybeans in May, up by 2,662,400 tonnes or 39.65% from 6,714,500 tonnes last month and up by 2,035,100 tonnes or 27.72% from 7,341,800 tonnes the same period last year, according to China’s customs. And China’s soybean imports totaled 33,882,700 tonnes from January to May, increased by 2,152,500 tonnes or 6.78% from 31,730,200 tonnes in the previous year.
In light of supplier, Brazil was still the top supplier. China brought in 8,862,100 tonnes of soybeans from Brazil in May, an increase of 2,923,100 tonnes or 49.22% from 5,939,000 tonne a month earlier and an advance of 2,508,900 tonnes or 39.49% from 6,353,200 tonne in May last year. From January to May, China imported Brazilian soybeans totaling 22,039,600 tonnes, up by 189,800 tonnes or 0.87% from 21,849,800 tonnes of the corresponding period last year.
Besides, China imported 491,700 tonnes of soybeans from U.S., a decline of 173,900 tonnes or 26.13% from 665,600 tonnes last month and a fall of 414,400 tonnes or 45.73% from 906,100 tonnes last year. From January to May, China imported U.S. soybeans totaling 8,970,300, up by 3,755,000 tonnes or 72.00% compared with 5,215,300 tonnes a year earlier.
According to Cofeed, there were 157 cargoes of actual arrival totaling 10,298,000 tonnes of imported soybeans at ports in June. China is expected to receive 157.5 cargoes totaling 10,321,000 mln tonnes in July. Likewise, soybean arrivals forecast preliminarily at 9.40 mln tonnes in August, up by 0.2 mln tonnes than the previous week. Furthermore, the arrivals of soybean are first estimated to be 8.10 mln tonnes in September, 7.30 mln tonnes in October, 7.40 mln tonnes in November and 8.00 mln tonnes in December. Based on above estimate, China’s soybean imports are projected to be 96,213,800 tonnes in 2019/2020 (October-September, 2019/20), an increase of 13,418,900 tonnes or 16.21% from 82,794,900 tonnes that surveyed last year. Statistics will be updated every week on account of variable and unstable buying.
Monthly carryover stocks at ports in China
Soybean stocks continued recovering in June amid huge imports of soybeans. By the end of June, domestic imported soybean stocks totaled 7,213,500 tonnes, up by 1,213,100 tonnes or 20.21% from 6,000,400 tonnes in May and up by 38.29% from 5,216,000 tonnes of the same period last year. It is expected that soybean stocks will gradually climb up as a result of huge amount of arrivals in later period.
