Cofeed: Report on Feed Production in China (Sept, 2020)

2020-10-16 www.cofeed.com

China’s hog and sow stocks continue rising this month, as enterprises are expanding their capacity at a brisk pace owing to handsome breeding margins. All of the 500 enterprises surveyed by Cofeed, hog stocks are 12,954,932 heads, a month-on-month rise of 5.20% and a year-on-year rise of 32.50%. And sow stocks have been rising for a 13th straight month. Sow stocks jump by 5.97% from a month earlier to 2,139,682 heads in 468 enterprises investigated by Cofeed.

Farmers are actively stocking up feed ahead of the Mid-autumn and the National Day holidays, and purchasers are also briskly making replenishment due to a rise in corn and soybean meal rices; hence, September hog feed demand continues its rises with a sharp growth in both production and sales.

Similarly, there is also a rise in the production of poultry feed. But the rise is smaller as farmers are reluctant to make replenishment due to dismal profits in broiler breeding and weak demand and also due to a weak trend in egg prices.

The production of aquaculture feed declines as the demand falls as expected. Aquaculture usually goes into the slack season as the weather gets cool in autumn.

Of all 1135 feed enterprises in China surveyed by Cofeed, feed production is 11,827,686 tonnes in September, up 973,287 tonnes or 8.97% from 10,854,399 tonnes in the previous month and up 29.91% from 9,104,782.7 tonnes a year earlier.
