Cofeed: Report on Feed Production in China (Oct, 2020)

2020-11-12 www.cofeed.com

China’s hog and sow stocks continue rising this month, as enterprises are expanding their capacity at a brisk pace owing to handsome breeding margins. All of the 500 enterprises surveyed by Cofeed, hog stocks are 13,529,766 heads, a month-on-month rise of 574,834 heads or 4.44% and a year-on-year rise of 36.35%. Sow stocks jump by 99,854 heads or 4.67% from a month earlier to 2,239,536 heads in 468 enterprises investigated by Cofeed.

The rigid demand for hog feed thus continues increasing in October, but as farmers have purchased before the National Day holiday, the growth is smaller than in September.

But poultry feed production declines in October. Egg prices in China keep a weak trend this year. Meanwhile, farmers are cautious about sharply increasing high cost due to a sharp rise in corn and soybean meal prices, which also leads to a decline in layer stocks. In addition, buyers have also made replenishment before the Golden Week, which also reduces the demand in October.

The production of aquaculture feed declines in October as the demand falls as expected. Aquaculture usually goes into the slack season as the weather gets cool in autumn.

Of all 1135 feed enterprises in China surveyed by Cofeed, feed production is 11,911,491 tonnes in October, up 83,805 tonnes or 0.71% from 11,827,686 tonnes in the previous month and up 30.61% from 9,119,958 tonnes a year earlier.

Specifically,

Hog feed: 5,628,166 tonnes, up 243,879 tonnes or 4.53% from 5,384,287 tonnes in Sept and up 62.53% from 3,462,788 tonnes a year earlier;
